The wines from Comptche Ridge often have a long, low profile, totally beholden to low forested ridges that house the site. In contrast to previous vintages, the 2015 Comptche Ridge displays unusually bright and floral aromatics that rise immediately out of the glass. With further aeration, the vineyard’s classic earthy, loamy aromatics appear, redolent of cool forest duff and warm soil. The entry is sappy and intense, leading to a distinctly pure mid-palate, one that remains quite grounded but equally structured by pliant, woody tannin. The wine’s juicy, mineral-veined finish sails for quite some time. Drink 2021-2028.
