Domaine Jean Fournier Marsannay 'Les Longeroies' (2005)

The Côte de Nuit’s northernmost winegrowing region was only granted appellation status in 1987 but had been revered by wine collectors for decades before. Jean Fournier was a pioneer in the village and now his son Laurent has taken the reins and is crafting wines with purity, depth and balance that, in this case, can last for 17 years! There is also 2% of Pinot Beurot which is interplanted in the vineyard and adds freshness and weight to the wine. Ready to drink now, this is a rich pinot noir that has a dark ruby center and aromas of baked black cherry, dried raspberry and balsamic. On the palate, the acidity is still fresh and bright with cranberry and pomegranate and a dark mineral and earthy finish. It does throw a bit of sediment at the end, but no need to decant for aeration.
