In 2015, Christophe planted three hectares of vines near Borgo, on the east coast of Corsica, not far from Patrimonio, but a tortuously long drive over the mountains to completely different ecosystems. In the times before chemical treatments, planting multiple grape varieties was a way to hedge your bets against diseases and/or weather that could impact one grape variety or another. As an homage to how Corsicans historically planted their vines, the “East Coast Project” vineyard is a field blend of indigenous varieties: Minustellu, Aleatico (red wine grapes) and Rimenese, Genovese, and Bianco Gentil (white wine grapes). Like the more “serious” wines from Patrimonio, these are all farmed organically, and vinified with native yeast in stainless steel tanks. Despite their incredible pedigree, these wines are a great value.
