Marengo's Bricco delle Viole is always a taut, focused wine but in 2004 it is was surprisingly generous in its expression of florals, black fruits, spices and mineral and that has only intensified in the bottle. I decanted this for over 3 hours on Easter 2022 and it still could have taken longer- out of the bottle it was so aromatic but tight and intensely tannic, once in the glass it had opened into an absolute dream! Dark, reduced black cherry aromas laden with Asian spices, crushed red rose and smoky graphite are balanced by cocoa powder tannins and an endless finish.
