Brunate is considered a 'Grand Cru' vineyard in Barolo and tends to ripen nebbiolo that expresses dark, earthy, meaty and leathery notes in the bottle and Marengo's shows all that plus black truffle and a smoky spice on the nose. There's a lot of hidden power here after time in the bottle which shows terrific mineral character before the wood tannin becomes more noticeable on the backend. Highly aromatic in the mouth, with compellingly sweet flavors of flowers and truffle, although it is chewy and deeply flavored, it finishes with very fine tannins and sexy oak notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and mace.
